This weekend I attended my first WordCamp in Miami Florida. In case you dont know, a WordCamp, as described by the WordCamp Central website is… A conference that focuses on everything WordPress. WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other. I have been using WordPress as a CMS for a almost 3 years now. As my blog gains momentum and I start to learn more about how take full advantage of the WordPress platform, I thought it was important to start getting more involved with the WordPress community itself. Not to mention a few of my local developer friends have recently been encouraging me to attend a WordCamp. So I went. I would usually take notes at a conference like this in Evernote, but recently, I’ve been playing around with a concept called sketchnoting. Sketchnoting is a visual form of note taking. But instead of simply writing everything down word for word, I sketch visual reminders and lay out the information in some sort of visual higherarchy based on what I think is relevant about whatever it is I am taking notes on.
